How to Build a Lighting Quote

If quoting a lighting job feels like guesswork, you're not alone. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

We’ve put together a simple system to help you quote faster, install faster—and look like a pro while doing it.

Walk the property

  • Snap some pics.
  • Sketch a quick layout.
  • Ask the homeowner where they hang out at night—and what they want to highlight.

Count the fixtures

Start with the Core 3: Uplights, Path-lights, and Wash-lights.

  • 2-3 Uplights per tree or column
  • Path-lights every 8–10 feet
  • Wash-lights for wide surfaces

Price it right. keep it clean.

Use this rule of thumb:
  • Price materials at 10% off list
  • Add $150-$200 per fixture to cover the cost of wire, connectors, and labor
Group fixtures by area. Show one project total. Keep the layout simple. You don’t need to itemize every wire and lamp. Just focus on value.

*This keeps quotes clean and profitable.

Pro Tip:

OFFER MAINTENANCE

"Wow" the Homeowner with a maintenance plan—1 or 2 visits a year to clean lenses, adjust aim, and swap lamps. Set yourself apart and include the first year free.

bottom line:

The best installs are the ones that don’t come back. Share these with your team or your contractors—and let the lighting do the talking.
